I’m SoCalSusie and have a lot of practice cooking for my family as I am now a senior citizen. I am not a trained chef, and I learned to cook from my Italian mother, who didn’t measure much when cooking. I am not staunch on measurements either because you learn how much an approximate teaspoon of salt is when it is in the palm of your hand before adding it to the mixing bowl. I think I just don’t want to do extra dishes and if I am close enough in my approximation it will work out just fine!
This food blog is my way to record recipes for my family, so we don’t have to get out cookbooks and weed through page after page of handwritten or printed recipes – there are a lot of them. I have some in my mother’s own handwriting and she passed in 1990!
I have a few websites I maintain for my family, so I thought I would create one that helps me. This blog will have recipes that have been handed down from my family, shared from friends, acquired through reading food magazines or the internet, and some are completely original. I’ll share credit where I got the recipe and how I modified it (if needed), even though some of the people that have shared their recipes with me are no longer with us. I have changed my eating habits over the years, so I’ll share how to make a recipe more vegan or vegetarian or just more healthy in general.
My daughter and her family are pescatarian, so our holiday menus have been modified over the years to accommodate. We often have a “Don’t miss the meat” holiday menu, and I’ll share those too.
I try to include a price per recipe, but know that I live in California, so prices are a little higher than most of the country, and I buy organic produce all the time. So my prices may be a bit inflated.
Oh and there will be no ads on this website! It’s all about sharing, not making money! If you’d like to donate something, just contact me and we will work that out, but it is not necessary.
